Been reading about this movie for a few days now. In my opinion, its definitely one worth seeing. It's directed by James Cameron's ex-wife, so if thats anything to go buy it'll probably live up to the great hype its bringing to the table. Its already won a swag of awards and was nominated for 9 Oscars. Its set for release on the 25th of February btw.

IMDB profile: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887912/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GxSDZc8etg

In my opinion, its one of the better movies to be released this year.

It's def. worth seeing. Even if you dont like the whole "shakey cam." thing, It's by far one of the best films of last year.
Shame it's only getting a release now in Aus. It'll be good to see it on the big screen.

It's definitely a good movie. I like the fact that there's no political overtones in this film unlike most other war movies. It's simply about the experiences from the soldier's point of view.

Definitely agree, that's one of the things I thought about while watching Black Hawk Down.

It wasn't scheduled for release at my local cinema, but now that it's won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars, I'm sure that it'll be on its way to the local (Y)

looks ok, feel sorry for James Cameron though as he put more time and effort into Avatar and she probably learned most of her technique from him aswell although she would never admit.

3 years, marriage was 3 years. Two completly different filmmakers.
Plus. James camron can just go cry into his giant bags of money.

Way to miss his point. A movie that has taken over a decade (?) to make due to revolutionary technology (regardless of storyline) was trumped by his ex wife's film. Look up Avatar development details and see how much effort he put into it instead of talking like an ignorant fool.

???

What does me not having seen the movie have to do with it? You don't think someone that has put 16 years of work into a movie and revolutionised the film industry deserves credit for it?

I'm not saying that The Hurt Locker isn't good, It definitely looks like a cool movie, and I do intend on seeing it, but when it comes to a 'who put more into their film' Avatar wins over any competitors.

Avatar deserves all the technology awards it can handle.
But a film is far more than how it looks.

I mean I enjoyed Avatar, it looked great and shit but for a movie to really last in your mind it has to have some emotional impact. Example being the Shawshank Redemption. That movie has stuck to me more than any other purely on the way the actors and the story permeated into my brain. To truly earn be a "best picture" it has to do good on the entirety of the spectrum. Avatar's acting and story were poorer than Hez without welfare.

I haven't seen the Hurt Locker by the way, I wasn't going to, but since Kingbob mentioned it doesn't have much of the politics then I probably will. Not really a big fan of "OMGUSARMYISAWESOME" movies.
